10.28.25 Substance Use 101-Adolescent Warning Signs (Virtual)

In this training, participants will be able to identify signs and symptoms of substance use in youth and how to respond appropriately if they are suspected to be under the influence. Participants will learn how to create safe, substance-free environments including bedrooms and/or facilities. This entails understanding the importance of setting clear expectations and boundaries while implementing preventative measures. Registration closes 48 hours before the training. Intended Audience: (FCS) Staff; Qualified Residential Treatment Program Staff (QRTP), Shelter Staff (Child Welfare Emergency Services), Supervised Apartment Living Staff (SAL); Recruitment/Retention Training Support Staff (RRTS) Direct Care/Front-Line Staff and Supervisors. Location Information: Zoom Trainer: Savanah Strahan, YSS-Savanah Strahan is a Lead Specialized Prevention Services Coordinator with YSS. She provides substance use prevention services in Story County implementing various curriculums to youth. Prior to joining YSS, Savanah completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health Education from Central Michigan University. During her final semester, Savanah held an internship at her university’s collegiate recovery program where she led assessments, developed education materials, and collaborated with coalitions. After graduating, Savanah made the move from Michigan to Iowa in 2021. At first, she was a Behavior Technician working in ABA Therapy before joining the field of prevention. Savanah is also a proud member of the Iowa Alliance of Coalitions for Change (AC4C) and is also their Youth Coordinator. The Training Room will open at 9:50AM. Training will begin promptly at 10:00AM. This training is scheduled until 12:00PM.
