Integrating Adolescent Br ain Development into Child Welfare Practice with Older Youth incorporates t he latest research to combine the knowledge related to trauma, implicit bia s, and building social capital and provides strategies on how to more effec tively work with older youth who experience the child welfare system.
This thirteen-modul
e training will describe the transition outcomes of older youth in foster c
are. Participants will be able to recognize how normal development is impac
ted in foster care placement and how this influences adolescent thinking an
d behavior. Trauma impacts brain development and can be long lasting, the t
raining will identify strategies to support healing and growth in older you
th.
This is Session 4. Session 4 will start to identify the knowledge and skills to prom
ote youth and adult partnerships. Participants will be provided the opportu
nity to transfer the learning throughout the modules into the work environm
ent. This work will include reflection and developing action steps to suppo
rt the knowledge and skills to best serve youth in practice.

Deason - Brianna (Bri) Deason is currently working
as a Youth Development Specialist for the Iowa Department of Human Rights.
She has nearly 15 years of lived experience with the foster care system. Br
i is also a senior at the University of Iowa, studying Political Science an
d Pre Law.

Please note: Priority seating is provided to staff workin g within one of the current DHS child welfare service contracts, including: Family Centered Services (FCS); Qualified Residential Treatment Program (Q RTP) / Group Foster Care; Child Welfare Emergency Services (CWES): Aftercar e Services; Supervised Apartment Living (SAL); Recruitment, Retention, Trai ning and Support Services (RRTS); Parent Partners; Foster Care Youth Counci l. If you do not work within one of the current DHS child welfare services contract, you may be bumped from the course and placed on a wait list.
