Substance Use 101 - Adolescent Warning Signs (Virtual)

In this training, participants will be able to identify signs and symptoms of substance use in youth and how to respond appropriately if they are suspected to be under the influence. Participants will learn how to create safe, substance free environments including bedrooms and/or facilities. This entails understanding the importance of setting clear expectations and boundaries while implementing preventative measures.

Intended Audience:  Residential workers (QRTP, Shelter, and Supervised Apartment Living (SAL))

Savanah Strahan- 
Savanah Strahan has worked in the Substance Use Prevention field for 3 years. She graduated with her Bachelor's of Science, in Public Health Education with a focus in substance use disorders, from Central Michigan University. Savanah is currently a Lead Specialized Prevention Services Coordinator at YSS and the Youth Coordinator for AC4C. She is passionate about educating others so that they make healthier decisions and be substance free.

 Registration will begin at 8:30AM. Training will begin promptly at 9AM. This training is scheduled until 11AM.

  1. Attendance: Please attend all scheduled sessions on time and stay for the full duration. Notify us in advance if you’re unable to attend.
  2. Engagement: Actively participate in discussions and activities. Come prepared and ready to contribute.
  3. Professional Conduct: Treat trainers and fellow participants with respect. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
  4. Confidentiality: Respect the confidentiality of personal or sensitive information shared during the training.
  5. Inclusivity: Contribute to a welcoming, non-discriminatory environment. Respect diverse perspectives.
  6. Technology (For virtual sessions): Ensure you have a stable internet connection and appropriate technology. Keep your camera on and mute your microphone when not speaking.

 

Please note: Priority seating is provided to staff working within one of the current DHS child welfare service contracts, including: Family Centered Services (FCS); Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP) / Group Foster Care; Child Welfare Emergency Services (CWES): Aftercare Services; Supervised Apartment Living (SAL); Recruitment, Retention, Training and Support Services (RRTS); Parent Partners; Foster Care Youth Council. If you do not work within one of the current DHS child welfare services contracts, you may be bumped from the course and placed on a waitlist.
