Course Description: This training will provide an overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the core features and symptoms related to communication.  Participants will understand the variety of communication modes and methods, such as use of gestures, sign, AAC devices, and vocal communication.   The training will provide participants will an understanding of communication strategies to promote communication for those with autism spectrum disorder and how to create opportunities to teach communication within daily routines and activities.

Intended Audience: Family Centered Services worker (FCS), Recruitment/Retention Training Support workers, Residential workers (QRTP, Shelter, and Supervised Apartment Living (SAL)); Direct Care/Front-Line Staff, Supervisors; Beginner staff (less than 1-2 years of experience), refresher for experienced staff

Registration will begin at 11:30AM. Training will begin promptly at 12:00PM. This training is scheduled until 1:00PM.

 

Child Welfare Provider Training Academy: Participant Expectations

  1. Attendance: Please attend all scheduled sessions on time and stay for the full duration. Notify us in advance if you’re unable to attend.
  2. Engagement: Actively participate in discussions and activities. Come prepared and ready to contribute.
  3. Professional Conduct: Treat trainers and fellow participants with respect. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
  4. Confidentiality: Respect the confidentiality of personal or sensitive information shared during the training.
  5. Inclusivity: Contribute to a welcoming, non-discriminatory environment. Respect diverse perspectives.
  6. Technology (For virtual sessions): Ensure you have a stable internet connection and appropriate technology. Keep your camera on and mute your microphone when not speaking.

 

Please note: Priority seating is provided to staff working within one of the current DHS child welfare service contracts, including: Family Centered Services (FCS); Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP) / Group Foster Care; Child Welfare Emergency Services (CWES): Aftercare Services; Supervised Apartment Living (SAL); Recruitment, Retention, Training and Support Services (RRTS); Parent Partners; Foster Care Youth Council. If you do not work within one of the current DHS child welfare services contract, you may be bumped from the course and placed on a waitlist.
