Course Description: Professionalism, ethics, and boundaries are key competencies across all areas of social work. However, working in the area of child welfare can provide additional challenges and require a unique set of skills. This workshop provides workers a core understanding of the values and ethical principles of social work and the critical role they play in our work as child welfare workers. Learners will explore models of ethical decision making, skills for navigating professional boundaries, and communication best practices. Learners will gain confidence in applying learning skills by engaging in interactive learning activities based on common situations experienced by child welfare workers.   

Intended Audience: Family Centered Services Staff (FCS); Qualified Residential Treatment Program Staff (QRTP), Shelter Staff (Child Welfare Emergency Services), Supervised Apartment Living Staff (SAL); Recruitment/Retention Training

Registration will begin at 9:00AM. Training will begin promptly at 9:30AM. This training is scheduled until 12:30PM.

  2. Engagement: Actively participate in discussions and activities. Come prepared and ready to contribute.
  3. Professional Conduct: Treat trainers and fellow participants with respect. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
  4. Confidentiality: Respect the confidentiality of personal or sensitive information shared during the training.
  5. Inclusivity: Contribute to a welcoming, non-discriminatory environment. Respect diverse perspectives.
  6. Technology (For virtual sessions): Ensure you have a stable internet connection and appropriate technology. Keep your camera on and mute your microphone when not speaking.

 

Please note: Priority seating is provided to staff working within one of the current DHS child welfare service contracts, including: Family Centered Services (FCS); Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP) / Group Foster Care; Child Welfare Emergency Services (CWES): Aftercare Services; Supervised Apartment Living (SAL); Recruitment, Retention, Training and Support Services (RRTS); Parent Partners; Foster Care Youth Council. If you do not work within one of the current DHS child welfare services contract, you may be bumped from the course and placed on a waitlist.
