Mental Health Fundamentals Trainer: Billy Claywell Description: In-home workers face many difficulties, including working with clients with mental health conditions. Mental Health Fundamentals explores five common mental health conditions and gives staff practical guidance on how to guide clients without getting caught up in their drama. Attendees will learn about the connection between genetics, environments, and lifestyles in the development of a mental health condition; techniques to assist clients to replace maladaptive behaviors with positive ones; and skills to de-escalate clients experiencing a mental health crisis. Upon completion of this course participants will be able to understand how personal experiences impact relationships with clients experiencing mental health conditions, be able to identify the diagnostic criteria for five common mental health diagnoses, and able to recognize how adverse childhood experiences affect mental health. Location Info:FCC (First Church of Christ)1310 SW 7th StAtlantic, IA 50022Registration will begin at 8:30 AM. Training will start promptly at 9:00 AM. Lunch is on your own. Please note: Priority seating is provided to staff working within one of the DHS child welfare contracts, including: Community Care; Group Foster Care; Family Safety, Risk, and Permanency (FSRP); Child Welfare Emergency Services (CWES): Aftercare Services; Supervised Apartment Living (SAL); Recruitment, Retention, Training and Support Services (RRTS); Parent Partners; Foster Care Youth Council. If you do not work within one of the child welfare contracts with the State, you may be bumped from the course and placed on a wait list.
